Dream large in business and life

The following piece has been written by La Porchetta’s CEO, Sara Pantaleo.

The annual National Franchise Convention is a meeting of entrepreneurs, young and old who dream large and make it happen. This year’s event was held in Canberra earlier this month and it was truly inspirational.  I met franchisors and franchisees who are at the cutting edge of their businesses, pioneering new ideas and driving innovation in truly amazing ways.

There were many stand-out moments and inspiring people and they all shared great insights. I want to share just a few gems that apply equally to running a business and our entire lives.  While some of these may seem obvious, they are easily forgotten in the hustle and bustle of everyday life.  It was great to be reminded that:

The glass is not half full or empty.  The glass is refillable.
The world is run by people who show up.
Give it a ago. It’s OK to fail.
The five characteristics of great leaders are:
    – Positive outlook
    – Goal directed behavior
    – Self-motivation
    – Sense of urgency
    – Never stop learning

I am reminded of our own outstanding franchisees who we acknowledged at our La Porchetta conference a couple of months ago.  Each year we present a series of awards to franchisees who go the extra mile to make their restaurants exceptional ones.  Our selection process is rigorous and we set the bar high to find the best of the best.

This year’s winners included our Riccarton and Parnell restaurants in New Zealand and our Hastings, Rosebud and Salamanca restaurants in Australia.  Each of those franchisees makes extraordinary efforts to provide a great customer experience and as one told me recently, they live by their motto which is, walk in a stranger, walk out a friend.  They all richly deserve the awards they won.

I’m passionate about franchising as a business model and very proud of our franchisees who strive for excellence in their businesses.
