It’s a Privilege to Support the Work of Moira Kelly

The following piece has been written by La Porchetta’s CEO, Sara Pantaleo.

I am privileged to have worked with one of the world’s most remarkable humanitarians for more than 15 years now.

Moira Kelly is a household name in Australia, famous for bringing to our shores many children who needed urgent medical care that wasn’t available in their own countries. They include her two Iraqi-born boys, Ahmed and Emmanuel and formerly co-joined twins Trishna and Krishna. Moira has dedicated her whole life to giving to others and she has helped countless children over the years. For much of that time, La Porchetta has been supporting her work in many different ways, including fundraising and providing special experiences such as parties for the children in her care.

Two years ago, Moira launched her own foundation – the Moira Kelly Creating Hope Foundation and she now helps children and displaced women.  I am very pleased to be its chairperson and to celebrate our second anniversary this month.

Since we launched the Foundation in 2015, it’s gone from strength to strength. Moira’s motto is, “there’s no saying ‘no’ to hope” and in that spirit, she is providing care for a number of children and women.  They include young Shahd, who is now living pain-free and able to use her hands and little Angel, who is no longer malnourished and is now ready for life-saving surgery which will give her quality of life.

Two formerly displaced women have also joined us. Both had nowhere to go and both now have beautiful babies who give us all immense joy.

Not only do I personally chair the Foundation, La Porchetta and our franchisees also support Moira’s work with fundraising events at our conference each year.  Very soon however, we will be inviting our customers to help Moira as well, with a major campaign to raise the funds that are needed for Angel’s upcoming surgery.  Stay tuned for more information.

It’s been an amazing journey for the Foundation and for me personally. I’ve worked with Moira for such a long time now, but I never cease to be moved by the children in her care and the amazing work she does.  We look forward to the next two decades of doing this work.
